Name the Bhoots

On Bhoot Chaturdashi night, bhoots from all over India come to visit Bengal. Ten scenes, ten bhoots hiding in each. Can you name them all?

  1. Tap a bhoot in the picture, then tap its name. Or tap the name first, then the bhoot.
  2. Pair as many as you like, then press Analyse. Right names turn green and stay; wrong ones turn red, so try again.
  3. Each right name is 10 points; each wrong one costs 2. Clear a level with no mistakes for three stars.
  4. Higher levels hide their bhoots better, and offer more names that aren't in the picture.

What is Bhoot Chaturdashi?

Bhoot Chaturdashi is the fourteenth night of the waning moon in Kartik, the night before Kali Puja. In 2026 it falls on Saturday 7 November.

Bengali families light fourteen clay lamps, choddo prodip, around the house: at the door, on the stairs, by the tulsi and in the dark corners. The lamps light the way for fourteen generations of ancestors and keep wandering spirits out.

At lunch many homes eat choddo shaak, fourteen leafy greens fried in mustard oil, said to keep the body well as the weather turns. After dark it's a night for ghost stories over tea and telebhaja.

Elsewhere in India the same day is Naraka Chaturdashi, or Choti Diwali. Kali Puja and Diwali follow on Sunday 8 November.
